Job Description:

DescriptionThis appointed positionis responsible for managing media relations and public information.Writes, edits, and designs print materials, such as speeches, press releases, and other informational materials.Helps manage relationship with news media outlets - local and national.Examples of DutiesManages media inquiries and responses, on-call duties and research.Creates, prepares and edits news releases and briefings for leadership.Serves as backup spokesperson in the absence of the Communications Director.Collaborates with PIOs on the development of print and electronic information materials.Develops and maintains working relationships with news media.Responsible for the preparation and distribution of agency media advisories and news releases.Plans logistics for agency press conferences.Participates in agency recruitment and community relations activities, as directed.Serves as first point of contact in the Mayor's Office for some Metro agencies.Manages daily media tracking and ensures materials are to leadership in advance of deadline.Assists with special projects as assigned.Participates in weekly communication team meetings.Participates in senior staff meetings in the absence of the director.Assists in Open Records Requests.Performs related work - pitching stories and interviews.Physical RequirementAnd WorkingConditionsPhysical RequirementAnd WorkingConditionsMeets regular and punctual attendance standards and any special needs of the position as determinedby management, including work days, evenings, nights, or holidays.Minimum RequirementsBachelor's degreeCommunicationsJournalismMarketingMediaRelated fieldTwo year of management experience.Four years of journalism or multimedia experience preferred.Other MinimumRequirementsMust be proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint, and design techniques andtechnology to produce any informational materials for public distribution in a printed or electronic form.This position is required to work days, evenings, nights, or holidays, as deemed necessary by procedure or directive of the Director.Skills and Abilities Excellent verbal and written communications skills.Supplemental InformationEOEAppointed
