Job Summary This exciting new position will focus on the
high-profile Residential Air Conditioning product research &
development, focusing on product design/development. The ideal
candidate will have 10-15 years of technical design and program
management experience in the residential HVAC industry. This
candidate will help both local and global teammates regarding the
design, program & milestone management, and technical requirements
for the residential/unitary HVAC products. This is a full-time
position. Some domestic and international travel is required.
Essential Job Responsibilities
- Be a technical product expert for residential HVAC products
(including, but not limited to heat pump technology, furnace &
thermostat applications and offerings, AHU products, and outdoor
condensing units)
- Provide product support and industry expertise to local and
global design teams during product development and the launch of
new solutions - both as a design manager and overall program
manager
- Work with other R&D team members and consumer research
teams to gain insights on installation, serviceability, usability,
and performance of new concepts
- Be a hands-on engineer - including making & reviewing
prototypes in the lab, developing proof of concept designs,
testing, etc.
- Lead the intellectual property roadmap & overall IP strategy
for unitary products
- Consult with and train the China-based development team members
regarding residential HVAC products & design requirements relative
to performance, usability, reliability, technical risk, safety, and
installation
- Manage day-to-day interactions with teammates from industrial
design, sales/marketing, product management, agency/regulatory,
legal, consumer insights, etc.
- Continually monitor industry trends and competitive offerings
to look for product enhancements or new offerings that the R&D
team can execute
- Maintain weekly interaction with global design teams, including
taking occasional weekend/evening calls & helping track project
milestones, deliverables, action items, etc.
- Be the cross-functional product champion who will work closely
with agency/regulatory, advanced development, global R&D,
consumer insights, service, and customer support
- Assist with product improvements and quality/service team
members with root cause analysis, potential field visits, etc.
- Ability to meet with customers/potential customers to discuss
product design, requirements, and help answer questions
- Ability to travel domestically & internationally Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar field
from an accredited university
- 10+ years of experience as a design engineer/design
manager/program manager for Residential/Unitary HVAC products
- Knowledge of HVAC manufacturing processes as well as
manufacturing and design quality measures
- 3D CAD software knowledge (i.e. Solidworks)
- Experienced with fabrication tools & prototyping methods
- Strong problem-solving & root cause skills
- Goal-oriented & self-managed
- Excellent communication skills
- Previous experience in project management
- Ability to thrive in a collaborative team environment Preferred
Qualifications
- Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) design experience
- Experienced with HVAC controls
- Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar field from
an accredited university
- History of working with global colleagues
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification Midea
