Job Description:

ResponsibilitiesThe System Vice President, Adult and Pediatric Cancer Service Line will have direct accountability for operational oversight and program volume growth of the service line. In addition to the duties as an executive of Norton Healthcare, this position will serve as the primary NHC Executive accountable for the cancer service line coordination across organizational lines. Direct operational responsibility for the system-wide cancer service line business development and resources. This executive collaborates with the Chief Administrative Officer and Medical Director of the Norton Cancer Institute, and interfaces with facility leadership to develop and implement the cancer service line strategic plan for the Norton Healthcare system. Oversees cancer programming and planning throughout Norton Healthcare. Coordinates all cancer service line marketing and marketing research. Develops and maintains relationships with internal and external physicians. Accountable for Nixon and Garlove Lectureships. Collaborates with adult and pediatric, inpatient and outpatient oncology programs to identify opportunities for program development.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Provides direction and input into the annual operating and capital expenditure budgets of the service line; Works collaboratively with NHC leadership to ensure areas of responsibility to include service line departments exceed or meet operational targets; Assists in identifying grants or other philanthropic dollars to support service line initiatives.
  • Works with NHC leadership to ensure programs are designed to be patient and family focused, sensitive to the need for operational efficiency and ensure outstanding clinical quality. Lead annual planning andacquisition of national speakers for physician and public education programs; Ensure patient satisfaction scores for services lines are continually ranked among the top 95th percentile nationally. Collaborate with inpatient and outpatient managers and CNO's to identify quality improvement and patient satisfaction initiatives and assist in implementation; Ensures strategic, operational, programmatic and other plans/policies support and are aligned with the NHC mission, vision, values and service basics; As appropriate, organizes information for board of trustee meetings related to service lines.
  • Serves as the administrative leader to the cancer service line. Direct operational responsibility for the system wide Cancer Service Line Business Development staff, Norton Children's Cancer Institute (NCCI), Network Tumor Registries, (3) Cancer Resource Centers, Quality and Accreditation Program, Breast Health Programs, Patient Navigator Programs, UGI/Hepatobiliary Program, NCI Radiation Centers, Physician Relations Manager, IT staff, Behavioral Oncology. Responsible for Network Cancer Registry functions. Responsible for monitoring and reporting NCI quality outcomes. Works directly with associate service line medical staff and matrix leadership personnel in establishing priorities for all medical and operational co management functions; Serves as the clear identifiable resource for service line matrix operational matters; Serves as the primary resources for internal and external issues related to assigned service lines. Oversee collaborative relationships and contracts with UL physician group. Development of new physician committees and recruitment of members to oversee NCCI (governance, clinical care, quality, innovation, and cancer research committees). Provide oversight to pediatric oncology research program (NCH and UL).
  • Collaborates with NHC senior leadership to provide input into strategic planning process for assigned services lines; Working with leadership at the NHC hospitals, proactively identifies quality of care initiatives based on best practice evidenced based data and develops plans/measures to ensure ongoing delivery of quality patient care for assigned service lines. Monitors manages and presents all service and clinical metrics deemed to be critical to the service line; Utilizes strategic knowledge and business planning skills to develop annual volume and financial projections in conjunction with corporate administrators. o Lead development of oncology quality metrics data collection and reporting; Works with NHC senior leadership to ensure ongoing compliance with all federal, state and regulatory bodies that govern the practices of the service line o Lead American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer accreditation requirements, inspections, and Norton Cancer Institute Network CancerCommittee; Plans well and prepares in advance for projects and multiple possible outcomes. Maintains awareness and is sensitive to the inter-relationships required to ensure success of initiatives. Anticipates obstacles realistically during the planning process. Act as the cancer program administrator for the Commission on Cancer pediatric cancer program.
  • Positions service lines for future growth, cost reduction and quality improvement through targeted initiatives; Proactively identifies new services or programs within assigned services lines that add incremental new volume/revenue o Communicates and collaborates with physicians, facility administrators, and service line VP's to determine program and business development opportunities and lead implementation of determined initiatives; Works with the NCI leadership team to identify and implement new technologies, new programs/services, and new affiliation/accreditation opportunities; Workswith marketing and communications teams to develop and direct specific strategies to raise awareness of NHC's service lines on a local, regional and national basis; Collaborate with the marketing and public relations department to develop, approve and implement cancer service line marketing and PR plans; Works with NHC senior leadership to proactively assess the impact of legislation on futuregrowth, restriction of services and reimbursement for care. Proactively works with NHC government relations executive to ensure NHC interests are appropriately represented.
