Founded in 1951 by the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth Flaget Memorial Hospital is nationally recognized for orthopedic care surgical care and inpatient satisfaction. We offer a complete array of services including cancer care heart care outpatient rehabilitation skilled nursing weight loss surgery pain management general surgery obstetrics and gynecology maternity care and sports medicine. The cancer center is proud to be able to provide full support and cancer care to patients through its medical and radiation oncology programs. With our combined resources CommonSpirit is committed to building healthy communities advocating for those who are poor and vulnerable and innovating how and where healing can happen both inside our hospitals and out in the community.ResponsibilitiesJob Summary / PurposeThe Vice President of Medical Affairs is a member of the senior executive team that has oversight of medical care provided in the institution. The VPMA works closely with the senior nursing executive in other areas of clinical care delivery and advises the President in areas of medical staff relations and clinical strategy. The VPMA also has significant market-wide responsibility to provide leadership for the critical care programs in all hospitals. - Coupled with this is clinical work as an intensivist in any of the market hospitals.Essential Key Job Responsibilities1. Serves as Vice President Medical Affairs (CMO) for Flaget Memorial Hospital -

  • Create an excellent patient experience
  • Lead in the development and functioning of systems that maximize the quality of care in the hospital and the ambulatory environment
  • Be a primary driver in local patient safety programs as well as those adopted by CHI, all of which enhance the development of a highly-reliable organization
  • Support the market quality and safety plan
  • Create frameworks that integrate the various aspects of delivery of care, both within the hospital and across the care continuum
  • Ensure that methods of delivering medical care are effective in meeting the needs of the patient
  • Lead efforts in maximizing the satisfaction of patients as measured through various survey instruments
    • Oversee and facilitate medical staff functions

    • Liaison between medical staff and the organization as a whole
      • Operations management
      • Support and enhance efforts to promote the flow of patients through the organization
      • Provide direct responsibility for other positions as assigned.
      • Recommend changes in organizational arrangements which better facilitate the achievement of organizational objectives
      • Ensure compliance with all applicable regulation and accreditation requirements
      • Maintain familiarity with relevant health care laws and concepts (e.g. Stark law, federal anti-kickback statutes, fair-market valuation) and support systems that lead to adherence - -

          • Support standardization across the market where appropriate and relevant
          • Support the implementation of information technology to deliver added value and assure that implementation is accomplished for patient safety, excellent outcomes, and for acceptance by both professional and support staff.
          • Develop relationships with payers that supports the maximization of reimbursement, either value-based or volume-based as appropriate
          • Foster development of systems that support value-based reimbursement over fee-for-service reimbursement
          • Maintain effective communication, either verbal or written, that enhances the alignment of key stakeholder groups
            • Performance management
            • Maintain a strong working understanding of metrics and medical analytics
            • Understand the relationship between physician documentation and the final coding of the patients diagnoses upon discharge.2. Provide programmatic oversight of intensive care level medical activities at the remaining market hospitals, even if not delivered by physicians who are specialized in critical care medicine -
            • Provide first-level management and direction of all critical care physician and APP activity at Saint Joseph Hospital, Saint Joseph East, Saint Joseph London, and Continuing Care Hospital.
            • Work directly in a clinical capacity in a proportion of time as directed by senior management. The balance of time will be spent in administrative work. This proportion may change from time to time but will be most often split approximately 40/40/20 and will include clinical work at all program hospitals.
            • Recommend physician and APP staffing models to achieve stated goals. This includes a consideration of remote presence technology (i.e. telemedicine).
            • Participate in the hiring and selection process for new provider and the ongoing performance evaluation of new and existing providers.
            • Lead providers in achieving excellent quality of care and progressive movement toward zero harm.
            • Develop and maintain policies, procedures, and protocols for the clinical care provided in the designated areas of service to assure care is delivered in a safe and well-organized manner
            • Support the rules of the medical staff that govern the quality and scope of care provided. Work in close partnership with elected medical staff leaders.
            • Develop and maintain an applicable continuous quality improvement program which includes monitoring and evaluation of clinical care activities and patient services with a time-line -to assess the efficiency of corrective measures.
            • Maintain regulatory compliance for standards that impact the service.
            • Design and implement programs to improve the cost-effectiveness of medical services.
            • Promote optimal use of the electronic medical record and effective clinical documentation.
            • Analyze audit results to assure patient care meets the expected standards.
            • Facilitate discussions related to ethical patient care issues assisting to achieve satisfactory resolution to the patient care issue.
            • Provide medical education and training to provide continuous learning opportunities.
            • Support an effective and collaborative relationship with the operational and/or nursing leader of the relevant area.
            • Enhance collaboration between the hospital and health-care providers to promote teamwork and communication among the entire health-care -team.
            • Build a culture of respect, trust, and professionalism among medical staff providers which is represented by fairness, inclusion, integrity, and nondiscrimination.3. Physician Practice -
            • Physician shall treat patients according to, and perform such clinical procedures as are consistent with physicians licensure, clinical specialty and privileges, practices and training.
            • Physician shall perform rounds at Hospital, treat patients in the emergency Department at Hospital, and perform in patient consultations as requested by members of the Medical staff of the Hospital, including call coverage specific to the physicians specialty as needed, including ten (4) days of call per month.
            • Physician shall perform other duties assigned by employer from time to time that are commensurate with professional services normally and customarily performed by a physician or within the scope of physicians general responsibilities set forth hereinQualificationsMinimum Qualifications :Required Education and Experience Masters Degree or Post Graduate Degree in care -administration, business, medical management, public health, or related fieldRequired Licensure and CertificationsM.D. or D.O. in KentuckyBoard Certification in a primary specialty recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS)Board Certification in a critical care sub-specialty -recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS)Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and TrainingMinimum of 10 years clinical and/or administrative experience, with at least 2 years experience as a Chief Medical Officer or Vice President of Medical Affairs in an acute care hospitalA background in analytics.Experience with quality and safety initiatives and process improvement. Experience working with physicians to create new structural alignment within an established organization.Experience working with an electronic medical record and other information technology and systems that support clinical integration.
