Baptist Health strives to cultivate a close-knit, positive and professional environment that encourages our employees to want to come to work every day.When you choose Baptist, you have an opportunity to play a role in providing compassionate, quality care that makes a difference in the lives of our patients and promotes joy throughout our communities.Job Description:Weekly Hours: 40Shift: 1stStatus: Full TimeJob Summary: Baptist Health Pharmacy services are committed to ensuring the optimal, safe, and effective use of medications for all patients through advanced technology and innovative application of skilled personnel that will improve clinical outcomes and community health in a value based environment.The Sterile Compounding Specialist Technician aids the Pharmacy Department in maintaining compliance with State and Federal laws related to sterile and hazardous compounding; helps train new Pharmacists, Residents, Students and Technicians in sterile and hazardous compounding; performs annual competencies on all staff who perform sterile and hazardous compounding; performs environmental monitoring in the sterile compounding areas and works with staff to ensure appropriate records related to sterile compounding are maintained.Principal Duties and Responsibilities:The following is a summary of the major functions of this individual's job. He or she may perform other duties, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below, and specific functions may change from time to time.1. Maintains a working knowledge of Joint Commission Requirements and federal/state laws and requirements for sterile compounding2. Serves as a mentor for new pharmacy employees in regards to processes involving sterile compounding, including but not limited, overseeing training of new pharmacy staff, students and residents.3. Works on Cost Containment of compounded sterile products by minimizing expirations, providing alternative product suggestions, and providing storage alternatives to accommodate drug shortages.4. Keeps accurate and readily retrievable inventory of expired or wasted controlled substances in the IV room under the supervision of the Sterile Compounding Specialist Pharmacist. Ensures destruction of controlled substances when appropriate in an appropriate manner and documents destruction per state and federal law.5. Performs environmental testing of sterile compounding environment, with appropriate action taken depending on results.6. Monitors records pertaining to sterile compounding to ensure documentation completed correctly and in a timely manner7. Fills prescription within State and Federal laws for checking by a pharmacist.8. Restocks returned medications in a timely manner and aids Pharmacy Management in monitoring waste to identify areas for potential improvement/cost savings9. Performs necessary calculations accurately.10 Prepares all sterile compounded products in accordance with USP requirements and utilizing strict aseptic technique.11 Serves as leader in use of automation in the IV room. Is able to train new staff and adjust practices according to departmental need.12. Ensures smooth work flow in work area and that all assigned tasks are completed atthe end of shift. All identified problems, if they cannot be corrected by the employee, will be reported to the Technician Supervisor, Sterile Compounding Specialist Pharmacist, Pharmacy Manager or the Director of Pharmacy13. Is familiar with the drug formulary maintained by the pharmacy.14. Performs medication inquiries on patient medication profiles in response to questions15. Coordinate with Materials Management Coordinator stock of items needed to compound sterile product. Able to order from distributor and notifies Management about issues related to backorders on compounded sterile medications or supplies.Minimum Education, Training and Experience:A. High School diploma or equivalent preferred. B. Must be knowledgeable of medications (dosage forms, brand and generic names).C. Six months of sterile compounding experience required.D. Required: Kentucky Board of Pharmacy registration certificate for Pharmacy Technician. (Within 30 days of hire date if you are a new registrant. If previously registered you must have registration upon hire)E.
