DutiesPAY SCHEDULE NM84
The Telemetry/Med Surg RN demonstrates proficiency in practice
based on conscious, deliberate planning. Self-directed in goal
setting for managing complex Medical-Surgical Telemetry patient
situations. Responsible and accountable for all elements of the
nursing process when providing and/or supervising direct patient
care. Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates care based on
age-specific components.
Duties include, but not limited to:
Plans and delivers technically competent care to Medical-Surgical
Telemetry patients.
Makes assignments and directs activities of other unit staff (RNs,
LPNs, students, PSAs, other team members).
Formulates a plan of care based on nursing assessments based on the
ANA Standards of Nursing Practice and seeks assistance as
needed.
Safely and effectively uses equipment required for patient care.
Reports equipment in need of repair.
Recognizes subtle abnormal signs and symptoms and/or changes in
patients' condition and responds appropriately.
Completes initial assessment of patient condition and response to
treatment and initiates follow-up as needed.
Includes the patient and family/significant other in developing the
initial plan of care and establishing goals.
Uses the Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS) and the Bar
Coded Medication Administration (BCMA) software per policy.
Recognizes ethical issues related to professional nursing practice
and behaves in an appropriate manner through observance of
established policies of the unit, VA, and professional
practice.
Other duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Varies. Multiple positions are being filled. Days,
nights, weekends, holidays may be scheduled as this is for the
Inpatient Unit.

Grade Determinations: The following criteria must be met in

Physical Requirements: This position requires visual acuity, keen
hearing, clear distinctive speech, and manual dexterity. This
position requires periods of walking, standing, stooping, sitting,
bending, pulling, pushing, and transferring patients and objects
may be required. The incumbent may be exposed to infected patients
and contaminated materials, and may be required to don protective
clothing in isolation situations or operative/invasive procedures.
The incumbent may occasionally be exposed to patients who are
combative secondary to delirium, dementia, or psychiatric
disorders. The incumbent must be a mature, flexible, sensible
individual capable of working effectively in stressful situations,
