Job Description:
Certification credit of $500 upon position start and an
additional $500 upon successful completion of 12-month probationary
period-Parity Pay considered for previous EMS experience based on
prior agency call volumeHiring Incentive Pay:Total of $8000 broken
down as follows:$4000 after training completedAn additional $4000
one year following training completion dateInitial payments after
completion of required training must be made before September 30,
2024ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Operates an emergency medical vehicleLifts,
carries and transports injured, sick or incapacitated persons from
residential or accident scenes to medical facilitiesProvides
emergency medical treatment to injured, sick or incapacitated
persons at the level of a certified Advanced Emergency Medical
TechnicianExamples of DutiesUNDER GENERAL SUPERVISIONObtains
information from persons involved, examines victims and determines
nature, extent or magnitude of illness or injury to establish
emergency medical procedures to be followed or need for additional
assistanceCommunicates with professional medical personnel at
emergency treatment facility to obtain instructions regarding
treatment and to arrange for reception of victims at medical
treatment facilitiesAdministers prescribed first-aid treatment at
site of emergency or in specially equipped vehicle according to
established medical protocolsApplies splints; administers oxygen or
artificial resuscitation; treats and bandages wounds or abrasions;
and performs other basic life support proceduresPerforms select
pharmacological interventions; establish and maintain peripheral
intravenous access and non-medicated intravenous fluid therapy;
non-tracheal airway management and other limited advanced life
support proceduresStabilizes, immobilizes, lifts and moves victims
from scene of accident or catastropheOperates a specially equipped
emergency medical vehicle in an assigned geographic area to respond
to accidents or catastrophes and to transport injured or ill
persons to a medical facilityInspects specially equipped emergency
vehicle, cleans equipment to ensure its safe operation, and
replenishes medical supplies, fuel and fluidsObserves, records and
reports to a physician the patient's conditionADDITIONAL SERGEANT'S
DUTIESProvides mentoring and oversight during EMT orientation
including equipment utilization and accountability, emergency
vehicle operations, map reading, care of medical related
emergencies and delivery of care for trauma related
emergenciesConducts advanced emergency vehicle inspectionsPerforms
regular uniform and basic life support kit inspectionsConducts
community education programs in CPR and EMS AwarenessPilot test
operation of all basic life support skill advancement
projectsParticipates in quality assurance projects including
conducting medical chart review, serving on the PEER Review
Committee, and performing outcome-based researchProvides rapid
response and delivery of emergency medical care in response fly
cars as needADDITIONAL EDUCATOR DUTIESCoordinates and teaches
training courses including EMT-B and EMT-FR courses; EMT-B and
EMT-FR continuing education courses; and community CPR, First Aid
and EMS Awareness coursesPerforms related workMinimum
RequirementsHigh school diploma or the equivalentOTHER MINIMUM
REQUIREMENTSMust wear personal protective equipment as mandated by
OSHAMust be vaccinated for hepatitis B, have provided evidence of
immunity, or have signed a declination form within ten days of
initial assignmentMust be a minimum of 18 years of ageMust not have
been convicted of a felonyMust pass a pre-employment drug
screeningMust pass a pre-employment physical examinationMust pass a
pre-employment polygraph testMust pass an annual medical
examination as mandated by OSHAMust work a varied scheduleMust
possess and maintain a valid driver's licenseMust be certified as
an Advanced Emergency Medical Technician in the State of
KentuckyMisdemeanor convictions will be considered on an
individualSPECIAL REQUIREMENTSEDUCATORMust be certified as a CPR
Instructor in Basic Life Support by the American Heart Association
or must obtain within one year of employmentMust be certified as a
First Aid Instructor by the American Heart Association or the
National Safety Council or obtain within one year of employmentMust
be certified as an EMS Instructor, Level II, in the State of
Kentucky or obtain within one year of employmentPHYSICAL
REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONSMeets regular and punctual
attendance standards and any special needs of the position as
determined by management, including mandatory overtime and
performing related workLifts and carries items weighing in excess
of 100 pounds in a team setting
