NORTON CHILDREN’S NEPHROLOGY, affiliated with the UofL School of Medicine, and a part of Norton Children’s Medical Group, seeks a board-certified/board-eligible, fellowship-trained pediatric nephrologist. The selected candidate will function as part of a dynamic, growing team dedicated to meeting the needs of children through clinical care, research, education and advocacy. We are looking for candidates who wish to join our expanding and dynamic pediatric nephrology program, where innovation and a dedication to caring for children with kidney diseases and hypertension are highly valued. The pediatric nephrology service currently covers the 300-bed Norton Children’s Hospital, the region’s only free-standing, full-service pediatric hospital, and an outpatient clinic at Novak Center for Children’s Health. The University of Louisville School of Medicine shares a vision with Norton Children’s Medical Group to grow and further expand our practice and the Division of Pediatric Nephrology, which is part of the medical school’s department of pediatrics. The pediatric nephrologist who joins our team of physicians and staff will have access to a broad range of clinical and academic pediatric nephrology services. ABOUT THE POSITION: Variety of practice pathways available in dialysis, renal transplantation, chronic kidney diseases and hypertension Participation in multidisciplinary clinics for comprehensive care of children with hypertension and kidney diseases Leadership and service line expansion opportunities through outpatient clinical projects Opportunity to develop research in various areas of nephrology, such as dialysis, transplantation, chronic kidney diseases, hypertension and glomerular diseases Faculty position through the UofL School of Medicine teaching medical students and residents in pediatrics and internal medicine/pediatrics Opportunity to lead the development of a fellowship program Competitive salary and academic rank commensurate with experience CLINICAL OVERVIEW Norton Children’s Nephrology offers multidisciplinary care for young patients with kidney conditions, including chronic kidney diseases, end-stage renal disease, kidney transplant and pediatric hypertension. Our dedicated renal transplant and end-stage kidney care team includes transplant surgeons, transplant nephrologists, pediatric nephrologists, dialysis nurses, living-donor and deceased-donor transplant coordinators, dietitians, transplant psychologists, transplant managers, social workers, pharmacists, and transplant infectious diseases specialists. Our approach advances care and improves our patients’ clinical outcomes. We work alongside Norton Children’s Heart Institute, Norton Children’s Neurology, Norton Children’s Rheumatology and Norton Children’s Urology, all affiliated with the UofL School of Medicine. Norton Children’s Nephrology provides acute and outpatient dialysis services, including continuous renal replacement therapy, hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis and dialysis in ECMO (extracorporeal membrane oxygenation) settings. At Norton Children’s Hospital, we provide acute therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE) services, including our recently developed TPE through the Prismaflex System. In addition to renal biopsies in inpatient settings, we perform ambulatory blood pressure monitoring services as part of our growing pediatric hypertension program. ACADEMIC OVERVIEW The UofL School of Medicine Department of Pediatrics Division of Pediatric Nephrology is actively involved in national research studies, collaboratives and consortiums, such as the Midwest Pediatric Nephrology Research Consortium, Chronic Kidney Disease in Children (CKiD) Study, North American Pediatric Renal Trials and Collaborative Studies (NAPRTCS) and Neonatal Kidney Collaborative to expand research. Our faculty development program supports research studies, including assistance with institutional review board approval, grants and mentorship. Division members have mentored residents and students in scholarly projects, which has led to national recognition. We have received the Division Award for Teaching for the past five consecutive years, and our nephrologists have consistently won top teaching awards, including the prestigious Professor of the Year award. Job Responsibilities: The physician is responsible for recording a detailed medical history of each patient in the electronic medical record, including, but not limited to, chief complaint, present condition, individual history, and family history. Performing appropriate physical examination of each patient. Analyzing reports and/or findings of tests and personal examinations in order to assess the medical condition of the patient, including diagnosing the patients injury or illness and formulating a prognosis.
