Server and Network Administrator

POSITION SUMMARY
Provide a stable, secure, and optimum performing local and wide
area network in support of the Server related applications and
other network resources, ensuring compliance with IT Governance
objectives.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
Operational Duties:
- Monitors and manages the daily operations to ensure server,
network and application availability in the absence of the
operations group.
- Performs Backup and Recovery functions for the server
environments in the absence of the operations group.
- Monitors network and Firewall logs to ensure network
availability (identify potential security and technical
issues)
- Performs Backup and Recovery functions for the network
components. Server Administration Duties:
- Optimizes Server hardware and software for performance based on
application requirements.
- Applies server application patches and upgrades in conjunction
with the Desktop Support Analyst(s) and the end users.
- Installs and troubleshoots server-based operating systems and
applications.
- Maintains and enforces systems security as dictated by
established policies and procedures.
- Implements and maintains disaster recovery processes and backup
strategies.
- Performs server fault management, isolation, troubleshooting
and resolution.
- Implements and maintains an Anti-Virus protection architecture
for the server systems. Network Administration Duties:
- Optimizes network hardware and software for performance based
on application requirements.
- Applies network patches and upgrades to ensure stability and
performance objectives are met.
- Installs and debugs network hardware and software components
(routers, switches etc.)
- Performs monitoring, troubleshooting, and configuration of
network resources (e.g. leased lines, switches, routers, etc.)
- Maintains and enforces network and Firewall security as
dictated by established policies and procedures.
- Implements and maintains disaster recovery processes and backup
strategies associated with network components.
- Installs, configures, and maintains VoIP hardware and software
components.
- Installs, configures, and maintains wireless networks and
assists with client configurations (barcode, kiosks, wireless PC's
etc).
- Maintains and enforces wireless network security policies.
- Installs, configures, and maintains network configurations to
support unified communications (VoIP, video etc). Strategic
Planning, Projects and Cross Functional duties:
- Defines standards, policies and operational procedures relating
to server and storage systems.
- Develops migration plans, and interfaces with other
administrators and analysts to coordinate changes.
- Evaluates, implements, manages and designs of Internet and
Intranet; and network applications including groupware and E-mail
applications.
- Plans, implements, and manages changes to the virtualization
environments in conjunction with other storage and server
administrators within the guidelines of the virtualization
strategy.
- Assists with the design and implementation of network
infrastructures.
- Assists with the development of capacity forecasts and the
identification of necessary infrastructure investments.
- Participates on technology and infrastructure projects.
- Research and develop business cases using the CAF process for
technology projects.
- Implements infrastructure projects using standard "Project
Management" methodologies.
- Participates in internal security audits in conjunction with
the Security Administrator. Organizational Duties:
- Keep Leadership informed through regular and open
communication.
- Deal constructively and helpfully with all members of the
Organization (Coworkers, Customers, Suppliers).
- Adhere to policies and procedures of the organization.
- Be a positive representative of the organization at all
times.
- Adopt, promote and support operational excellence initiatives
as identified by the organization (5S, Workplace Org Lean etc.).
Additional Responsibilities:
- Comply with all occupational safety and health rules and
regulations approved by the local Country, State and Province, NFI
Group management, the safety committee and Union partners
- Comply with all Environmental Management Systems certification
and Occupational Safety and Health certification achieved by NFI
Group
- Other duties as assigned. WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Diploma in Computer
Technology, or equivalent.
- 5+ Years experience managing servers in an enterprise
environment, an enterprise email system (MS Exchange) and managing
network resources.
- 3-5+ Years experience managing virtual infrastructures with a
good understanding of virtual networking and managing VoIP
telephone systems
- Understanding of security strategies would be an asset.
- MS Server OS administration, MS Exchange Administration
experience
- Active Directory installation/configuration, backup and
recovery, storage management and DR
- Network and firewall configuration
