Shifts Days: 10-hour shifts starting between 5 & 6 am Nights start
at 5 pm: Your Schedule, Your Choice, Your Premium Pay. M-F 8 hrs.
or 10 hrs. M-TH 10 hrs. or 12 hrs. Retirees- work a part-time
schedule on days or nights and receive a benefits package.
FUNCTION: Operates sand or grit blast equipment to remove rust and
scale from metallic surfaces. KEY RESULT AREAS: Parts are sand
blasted according to specifications and standard shop practices.
Parts are properly handled and protected. Equipment, including
blast booth, collector, and Personnel Protective Equipment (PPE),
is well maintained and problems are proactively repaired or
reported. Wasted effort and material is constantly sought and
eliminated. Additional work is constantly sought to ensure that
high levels of productivity are achieved. Duties are constantly
performed in a safe manner to ensure compliance with safety
specifications. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs work in a
timely manner. Precision masking of parts to customer blueprints.
Utilizes and cares for Personnel Protective Equipment (PPE).
Positions and turns material to completely blast all required
surfaces. Positioning may require the use of overhead cranes.
Adjusts mixture of air and abrasive to suit requirements. Services
sand or grit tanks; replaces worn nozzles. Empties collector and
replaces filters. Moves material in and out of blast booth using
hand truck, tow-motor and/or overhead crane. Monitors humidity and
temperature to meet customer specification requirements. Keeps
incoming whiteboard updated for all new incoming work. DESIRABLE
KNOWLEDGE/EDUCATION: High school diploma or GED required. DESIRABLE
EXPERIENCE: Ability to read blueprints. One-year forklift
experience. Experience working in a blast booth is preferred but
experience in finishing, paint booths or metal mills can be
substituted for blast experience. RELATIONSHIPS: Develops close
working relationship with material handlers, quality control,
fabrication and production control personnel. Demonstrates a highly
cooperative demeanor with other employees and willingly takes the
initiative to help others succeed. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Able to lift
50 pounds and the ability to lift 75 pounds with assistance.
Ability to control blast hose with 90-100 psi. Ability to bend,
reach, lift and stand for extended periods of time (8-12 hour
shifts). Ability to pass a pulmonary test and able to wear a
respirator for extended periods of time (8-12 hour shifts). Ability
to work alone in a small space for extended periods of time. Equal
