The Band Leader shall lead the band musically in multiple daily musical performances. The Band Leader also creatively facilitates the musical needs of guest entertainers and fosters a relaxing atmosphere of welcome and goodwill toward guests. He/she shall also establish personal relationships with guests, which will increase their customer satisfaction rating. Depending on vessel, the Band Leader may also work closely with the Cruise Director and Stage Manager to ensure passengers enjoy varied and polished musical experiences. The Band Leader also participates in the supervision of the Band Members.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Daily musical performances and rehearsals when needed with onboard entertainment staff and/or guest entertainers
  • Acting as a departmental representative for the band as a whole
  • Leading the band members by example in the area of guest relations
  • Perform in all onboard production shows
  • Cleanliness and up keep of all entertainment areas
  • Assist Entertainment Director in finding replacement musicians, depending on vessel
  • Participate and schedule rehearsals
  • Leading and participating in games and activities for guests, including but not limited to, trivia, on-shore hikes, craft activities, onboard games and game shows
  • Operation of on-board audio, light and A/V equipment
  • Developing personal relationships with guests to maximize their satisfaction (learn names, take interest in personal history, engage in conversation, act as a goodwill ambassador when problems occur)
  • Participating in weekly all-crew tasks including, but not limited to, operating a computer for weekly guest embarkation, emergency drills, loading stores, carrying trash, cleaning crew areas, handling luggage, transporting co-workers using company vehicles
  • Make hospitality standards an important part of day-to-day duties
  • Participate and ensure participation of all USCG mandated drills and emergency procedures as directed
  • Performs other duties if required since above stated describe only a regular working day and may not be inclusive of every task needed to achieve results

Requirement & Qualifications

Education:

  • HS Diploma or Equivalent Required
  • Bachelor's degree in related field preferred or an equivalent of experience

Professional Certification(s) or License:

  • Valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) - if applicable, and/or ability to obtain and maintain
  • Copy of DD214, if Veteran status

Skills & Abilities:

  • Excellent verbal, as well as written, communications skills
  • Excellent sight-reading ability
  • Thorough understanding of music theory
  • Seasoned, well-polished performance style
  • Ability to play in many different musical styles

Experience:

  • At least 2 years of experience in position with similar duties and responsibilities
  • Experienced at directing rehearsals
  • Experienced at conducting/giving musical cues
  • Cruise industry experience preferred

Other:

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Submit to and pass alcohol and drug tests as mandated by the USCG including but not limited to pre-employment, random, reasonable suspicion and post-accident/incident testing
