As a Staff Accountant I - AP Specialization, your day will be filled with opportunities to process all accounts payable transactions for the Bank. Experience in accounting with strong math and balancing skills is important while Stock Yards Bank & Trust will provide a professional environment to continually improve the candidate's skills and to further his/her career goals for advancement to higher levels within the banking profession.

Responsibilities

Daily responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Process accounts payable transactions for the bank. This includes the following:

  • Review invoices/expense reports for appropriate documentation and approval prior to payment;
  • Determine/apply appropriate accounting methods to govern payments (expense vs. capitalize);
  • Complete data entry of appropriate information into accounts payable system
  • Manage departmental 1099/W9 processes;
  • Ensure SYB compliance with prevailing policies (expense reimbursement, IRS mileage rules, etc.);
  • Prepare & submit monthly sales & use tax return to states where SYB has nexus;
  • Prepare & submit various regulatory filings;
  • Assist with month-end GL closing processes (establish accruals, monitor vendor payment history);
  • Formally prepare adequately supported various month-end reconciliations for select accounts;
  • Monitor, research and summarize expenditures as assigned/needed;
  • Process rent payments received;
  • Assist with managing the AP Workflow system and provide basic troubleshooting for employees in other departments;
  • Assist in reviewing and summarizing SYB lease agreements;
  • Ensure the accounting treatment of leases are accurate;
  • Prepare & record adequately supported journal entries;
  • Assist with other projects as needed
  • Special projects as requested by AP Manager/Controller;
  • Serve as a back-up to other Accounting personnel;

Job Requirements

  • The successful candidate will have the following qualifications:
  • Bachelor degree in accounting, business administration or a related discipline is strongly preferred.
  • 0 - 2 years with a Bachelor degree from a relevant field of study. Demonstrated history of previous work experience is highly desirable.
  • 2 -4 years with an Associate degree from a relevant field of study with relevant experience.
  • Employees are expected to represent Stock Yards Bank & Trust in a professional manner to customers and outside contacts.
  • Employees must have excellent interpersonal communication skills, consisting of the ability to write and speak effectively to others. Employees must be a productive team player, with the ability to learn, apply training and comprehend policies and procedures. Employees should also be flexible to changing working situations and able to meet deadlines as they arise.
  • Must be well organized and a self-starter
  • Detail oriented, professional attitude, reliable
  • Possess strong organizational and time management skills;
  • Strong problem solving skills, basic accounting principles knowledge, documentation skills, research and resolution skills, data analysis and multi-tasking skills
  • Ability to work independently and with a team in a fast-paced and high volume environment with emphasis on accuracy and timeliness
  • Proficiency with MS Excel and Word software applications is required.
  • Pursuit of an advanced degree or certification is highly desirable.
