Job Description:
The Bellarmine University Honors Program is seeking a part-time
instructor to teach a community-engaged first-year Honors seminar
themed around food and food justice for the fall 2022 semester
(8/25/2022 to 12/15/2022). At Bellarmine, first-year seminars are
designed to engage students, at the start of their university
lives, in serious academic inquiry with an interdisciplinary focus.
Honors sections of these seminars seek to empower students in the
program to maximize their talents and take ownership over their own
learning by incorporating one or more high-impact educational
practices, including but not limited to community-engaged or other
experiential learning.
This particular section of IDC 101H will meet once a week on
campus, and once a week at an off-campus site in West Louisville's
Portland neighborhood where students and the instructor will
collaborate with middle school students at Mighty Oak Academy by
working together in a greenhouse. The goal is to provide the Mighty
Oak Academy and Bellarmine Honors students opportunities to learn
about food and food-related issues alongside each other while
continuing to cultivate a reciprocal relationship with this valued
community partner.
On-campus meetings will take place Tuesdays and Thursdays from
3:05-4:20 in CNHH 106. Off-campus meetings will take place during
class time (on days determined by the instructor) at Mighty Oak
Academy (344 N 26th St., Louisville, KY 40212.)
Requirements:
Master's degree
Community engagement and/or community gardening experience
