M/FJob typePermanent positionJob contentThe Estimator is responsible for the timely management of the Services project cost estimating process to ensure that all outbound quotations and proposals from the sales team are delivered to customers expeditiously and accurately. This includes performing walk-throughs/site surveys, reading technical drawings, working with vendors and others to manage all aspects of bidding cost development for complex, large jobs and/or multiple projects. The Estimator will also track and share visibility of all cost estimates as well as provide regular progress updates to the sales team. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.Core Duties: Assist with bids for new contracts, respond to bid specifications, support the activities of buyers, perform client site-walks, predict project durations, develop quotes as needed, assist in creation of change orders, and perform take-offs from provided plans and scopes of work.1. Estimating: Develop accurate cost estimates for service, maintenance, and retrofit projects/programs by researching, analyzing, and collecting costs for labor, materials, transportation, equipment, and contingencies, including time requirements. Utilize various criteria including historical data, industry standard specifications, engineering drawings, part characteristics and quantities, and other data to ensure the accuracy of estimates. Qualify and estimate the cost of non-stocked, custom materials.2. Analysis & Reporting: Manage and maintain estimate calculations including accurate information on prices from subcontractors and suppliers. Prepare reports detailing costing data and summaries of costs going into a project. Analyze and track differences between estimated & actual cost3. Performance: Work with vendors, internal partners, and in-house sales and engineering teams to successfully produce accurate cost estimates, scope of work, proposals, and bids in a timely manner while meeting all submittal schedules and deadlines.4. Sales Enablement: Work with intra-company departments throughout the Service Sales process and follow all process requirements to understand deliverables for sales opportunities, develop accurate cost estimates, participate in kick-off meetings, perform all necessary internal reviews, establish risk and opportunity analysis, acquire cost approvals, and maintain internal records.9. Compliance: Jointly responsible with the sales and project teams for the review and verification of cost estimates and quotations for compliance with engineering principles, company processes and standards, customer contract requirements and related specifications, and quality requirements.The above is intended to describe the general content of and the requirements for the performance of this position. Very proficient in Microsoft Office and related standard computer applications.EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE1. Bachelor's Degree (B.S.) in mathematics or construction science and management from an accredited four-year college or university. A Master's Degree (M.S. or M.B.A.) in mathematics or business administration is a plus.2. 5+ years related experience and/or training in estimating, cost engineering/management, project management, or other related roles in the material handling industry or construction environments. Holding a cost estimator / analyst certificate (PCEA, CEP, CPE, CCEA) is a plus.3. Proven experience in preparing and submitting quotations with details of costs for the work to be done along with monitoring the costs at the different stages of a project to ensure it stays within the budget.4. Successful previous experience as a sales estimator or cost/price manager, consistently meeting or exceeding targets along with proven ability to produce accurate estimates and meet deadlines.5.
