By joining our Department of Highways, District 5 as a Transportation Engineering Technologist I in Bullitt County, you'll have the opportunity to oversee activities on minor construction, maintenance, bridge inspection, or utility relocation projects.

Holders of the Transportation Engineering Technologist I position will complete tasks such as:

* Plans, oversees and evaluates project construction tasks.
* Plans, schedules and coordinates maintenance operations in selecting materials, schedules labor and construction time and determines maintenance costs.
* Provides technical assistance and training for sub-professional personnel.
* Assists with meetings contractors, property owners, and local officials concerning minor project problems.

Holders of this job will obtain the following skills:

* Learns to prepare and review minor construction and maintenance projects documentation for technical accuracy and for compliance with established procedures, standard specifications, plans and/or contract documents.
* Learns to record company personnel and equipment hours for work performed on minor projects.
* Learns to check final bills and estimates.
* Learns to schedules inspection tasks.

Desired candidates possess the following requisite skills or experience applicable to the position:

* Experience in Construction.
* Communication skills.
* Organizational skills.

Work is performed in the office and in the field. Will be exposed to risks inherent to construction sites.

Minimum Requirements

EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree in engineering technology, construction management, engineering science, engineering mechanics, geology, earth science, industrial technology, industrial drafting, design technology or construction technology. OR Graduate with an associate's degree in Engineering Technology with completion of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet's Civil Engineering Technology Scholarship Program.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: None

Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: 1. Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree OR an associate degree in an engineering field OR 2. High school OR 3. High school

Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: 1. Must have three years of engineering-related experience with the first education option above; OR 2. Must have six years of engineering-related experience in which case related technical or vocational training will substitute for required experience on a year-for-year basis, up to a maximum of four years with the second education option above; OR 3. Must have four years of bridge inspection experience under the supervision of a Qualified Inspection Team Leader, plus successful completion of a Federal Highway Administration approved comprehensive bridge inspection training course with the third education option above.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must possess a valid driver's license prior to appointment in this classification. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this classification. Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possess and maintains required licensure(s), certification(s) or other credentials.

Work is performed in the office and in the field. Will be exposed to risks inherent to construction sites.

Probationary Period

This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
